The Bureau of Weights and Measures is mandated by the State of Connecticut to test and inspect every weighing and measuring device in the City of New Haven and beyond to ensure that consumers are getting what they pay for. Whether it is at the gasoline pump, riding in a taxicab, or weighing produce in a grocery store, the intention of the role of the Bureau of Weights and Measures is to reduce the likelihood of fraud and misrepresentation of goods. If you intend on using a weight scale as part of your business (ie. weighing fruit in a grocery store), you must register the device with the State. Cost

A standard commercial scale up to 1,000 lbs has an application fee of $30.
